Marquess of Malice is book two in the Lords of Scandal series by Tammy Andresen and is just as thrilling as the first. The Marquess of Malicorn, known formally as Lord Chadwick Hennessey and informally as Malice, is another owner of the Den of Sins, a prosperous gaming club. After the Chase women stumble into the club one dark night, he promises his friend Lord Darlington to help watch them and make sure they don't ruin the club. His target? Cordelia Chase. She is quiet, kind, and amenable. Everything Malice is looking for in a wife, making his solution to keep her quiet seem easy. Underneath that shell, however, is a stubborn woman who just wants to be noticed and loved...and she's willing to wait for it. After she turns down his marriage proposal, Malice reevaluates his initial plan but can't seem to let her go. As he reflects on these budding feelings, he is forced to confront his own path and decide on his future. All while keeping Cordelia quiet and safe.
The conflict of the first story continues, yet with a new focus. Even so, I truly enjoyed myself. Marquess of Malice by Tammy Andresen was well-written, full of emotions, and made me dreamy. As a romantic myself, I can't help but get sucked into these stories. It was all made better when I learned the main character, Cordelia, was a writer with a penchant for love and romance. Stolen steamy kisses and mending broken hearts is hard to dislike. I also quite liked how authentic the story was in regards to the time period. The author's word choice and imagery helped take me into the Regency era.
