“Imagination is a magical thing. It makes the impossible possible…” Do you know where you can find imagination? Would you know it if you saw it? Luna is told she can’t spend another day watching TV. She has to play outside. Only, she thinks playing outside is boring. Is it? What about that cardboard box underneath the tree? It’s rattling and transforming into a spaceship, one that will take Luna all over the universe, in search of the moon, where she’s sure she will find this elusive imagination. Will she? It doesn’t really matter as Luna starts to have so much fun on her little adventure.
Elizabeth Jurado’s picture book story, Luna’s Do-Something Day: A Trip to the Moon, is all about adventures, imagination, and having fun (away from the TV). The plot is simple, following little Luna’s introduction to make-believe and creating her own adventures using, you guessed it, her imagination. With beautiful, bright, colorful illustrations, this story will both entertain and inspire young readers to have and create their own imaginative adventures. It’s easy to read which will encourage young readers to improve their reading skills. As Luna explores the universe in her imaginary adventure in a cardboard box-turned-spaceship, she learns (and readers will, too) about some of the planets she encounters, until she finally lands on the moon. Packed with fun and adventure and a touch of humor, this book will definitely inspire young readers to create their own entertainment away from the TV and away from high-tech devices.
