Loved: A Mother's Celebration is written by Raven Howell and illustrated by Pamela C. Rice. When a new child joins our family, it is sometimes hard to express how much we love this new addition without feeling like our hearts will burst with joy. Using colors, the book brings incredible emotions to the words we feel, with reds, yellows, greens, pinks, browns, and so many more. Parents never wish their children to think they are hated just because anger, sadness, or confusion enters into a discussion of what has happened. Growing up is something done together as a family. Every bump in the road brings new experiences in life and every single moment of parenthood is very much worth it as it bonds a family.
Reading Raven Howell's words reminded me of the joy I felt when my son was born so many years ago. I remember also how easy it is to confuse words and feelings when a parent is worried about their baby in that the child may think one of their parents is angry. Loved: A Mother's Celebration teaches both parents and children that there are so many different things in this world that bring us together, make us worry about each other, and feel proud of each other. It is what the journey of life is all about. A child's sadness urges us to turn that frown upside down so that the sun can shine on their world again. Celebrating a child's life each and every day not only gives happiness to the parent but also to the child, making them feel safe, warm, and as if they are wrapped in a blanket that will never allow harm in their lives. This book should be in every library for parents and children alike to remind them that the world is beautiful because they are in it. I recommend Raven Howell's words of wonder to all readers worldwide.
