A tainted box of chocolates poisons the recipient and disrupts a Valentine's Day party in the engaging mystery novel, Love on the Rocks (Cobble Cove Mystery #4) by Debbie De Louise. Gilly and Sheriff Ramsay are returning from their honeymoon in Hawaii. The Cobble Cove library staff are putting together a dual party on Valentine's Day. The first party is for the patrons of the library, and the second one is a surprise party for the new bride and groom. The wedding party is to begin after the doors are closed for the night. Unfortunately, minutes before the newlywed couple arrives, Sheila, the director of the library, samples a gift of chocolate from a secret admirer and falls unconscious to the floor. No one saw who left the candy or can even think of a reason to want Sheila dead. After being nearly killed in their last exploit, sleuth team Gilly and Alicia must make a choice. Will their sleuthing instincts prevail? Or will the girls continue as an investigating duo?
Love on the Rocks (Cobble Cove Mystery #4) by Debbie De Louise has an interesting and complex plot that takes an unexpected turn, ending with a surprising twist. The storyline contains several suspicious characters that keep you guessing as to the motive and identity of the murderer. This is not a standalone novel; as the fourth book in the series, I found it a tad difficult to keep up with the characters. I recommend reading the preceding three books first as it will make it a lot easier to understand the story and characters. Cobble Cove Mysteries is a charming series that cozy mystery lovers and fans of intrigue and suspense will enjoy.
