In a first love and coming of age story that brilliantly explores the climates of teenage hearts, Love Me Anyway by J.P. Grider spans a decade, a story about what two young hearts will overcome to fulfill the attraction they feel for each other. Told in a warm and mellow tone, this compelling story plunges the reader into the complex world of teenagers, featuring two characters that are as memorable as they are believable.

Tia Mercury has had her first crush on a guy, a senior, but could it be the wrong guy? Clinton Daniels’ father doesn’t get soft on him, no matter when nor the circumstances, and he can’t forget that. But now he is irresistibly drawn to Tia, a girl who is a minor. But how can he trust her? How can he also tell her his secret, risking losing her forever? And while she falls head over heels for him, he is busy making mix tapes for her. The question is: how long can they go on this way, with Clinton ignoring Tia and she being unsure of what he thinks? There is a lot for the reader in this beautiful tale — surprising turns to take, realism, and twists no one could see coming.

Told from the alternating points of view of Tia and Clinton, Love Me Anyway is strong proof that the author understands the world of teenagers and she makes her characters come to life in ways that are unusual. This is one of the best things I have read about young love. The writing is excellent, and J.P. Grider’s use of short sentences gives power to the narrative and quickens the pace. Right from the beginning, the author captures the reader’s attention with: “Her face made me smile. It was a sweet face. A kind face. Soft. Plump. Pleasant. And her heart matched. It was full of love and of life.” For fans of coming of age stories, this is a generous offering, gorgeous and delectable!
