Little Bunny loves to read. Once a week, he and his parents make a happy march to the nearby library where Little Bunny chooses another book to read. The week flies by as Little Bunny reads all kinds of stories about elephants and firemen and pirates. But one day, on their weekly jaunt to the library, they discover that the library is closed for inventory. Little Bunny is so sad. He doesn’t know what to do. He really doesn’t want to play with his toys. He wants a story to read. So what does he do? He writes his own story. And what a great story he writes, complete with colorful illustrations that he created himself. His books is a real treasure and he’s proud to share it with his parents.
Margaret Welwood’s beautifully illustrated picture book story, Little Bunny’s Own Storybook, will certainly charm young and old readers alike. The story is told in rhyming verse and instills in the reader a passion for books, something which we all need to reinforce with the younger generation. Not only does the author promote the fascination one gets from reading books, she also introduces the concept of writing one’s own storybook and the sense of pride and accomplishment that goes along with the project. This is a great book for young readers and young writers. It teaches reading, writing, art, and much more, and instills in young children the beauty of making something themselves, of writing a story and illustrating it themselves. Very educational. A good read.
