Perhaps Misha Fisenko would not have found himself in his current plight if he could have predicted his homeland’s capricious climate, something he knew was vain. It all started with unpredictable weather conditions in Russia’s grain-growing regions, which saw a failed harvest. Being the vice president of Exportkhleb (the Soviet Union’s grain export agency), such news portrayed his and the agency president’s leadership badly. Worst still, the failed harvest implied looming and inevitable starvation all over the USSR. The only country that the USSR could approach to salvage their situation was the United States, but there were strained international relations. An enraged minister of agriculture in the USSR orders Fisenko to take care of the imminent grain crisis. With so many things at stake and the fate of a whole nation on his shoulders, what will Fisenko do? If you love historical fiction novels with an engrossing conspiracy tale, Russ Crawford’s Limit Up is a must-read for you. Russ Crawford forges an intriguing plot featuring an amazing cast and a slow-paced storyline. He gives vivid and detailed depictions of his scenes and characters. The economic and political details made the story remarkably convincing. His choice of words gave the story the perfect setting of the late twentieth century. The narration gives an insightful edge to the storyline, yet at the same time maintains a subtle touch. The author definitely knows how to build suspense and tension. As soon as I started reading, I had to keep flipping through the pages till the end. The cast was wonderfully developed. There is an edge of sentiment to the narration, making it easy for me to feel the cast’s emotions and connect with them. Introspection also brings out the character traits of the cast. With his intelligence, experience, and unwavering loyalty to the Soviet Union, Fisenko was undoubtedly the right guy for the job.
