Life is But a Dream by Jennifer Provenza is about a young woman who inhabits two alternate reality worlds. She goes back and forth in her sleep. This makes for some funny but also potentially dangerous situations. In one reality/city, she is married and has a small child. In the other, she is a swinging single with girlfriends who go out to bars to find men to date. This book brought up the very interesting concept that we may not be able to tell when we are dreaming, another book possibly based on the movie Inception. It's a frightening thought, but could explain what's happening when the inexplicable happens to us. The surprise ending will win you over. Angela and her husband Steve are likable characters for the most part, but it would be nice to get to know them on a little deeper level.
I liked Life is But a Dream because I have become fascinated with these alternate reality books. I have an active dream life myself and enjoy remembering and writing about my dreams. Angela seemed to be a young woman who wasn't shy about saying what she wanted and didn't want, both in her single relationships and in her marriage. But the dream world scenario caused her quite a few problems and she couldn't always be honest about what was going on with her! Jennifer Provenza has come up with a wonderful story and it was a lot of fun to read. I hope that she continues writing.
