What would you do if a character escaped from a book? What if that character was a monster? Four children will have to solve this problem - one more time. Hungry Howard (that is the monster's name) had already escaped once, and it did not work to trap him in a jail book. Who can advise the children on how to proceed this time? The librarian, of course. Her name is Miss Beth, and she has the solution: read the book to the monster. Will our young heroes be able to find Howard and capture him? Laurel Lorenzini will reveal all in Library Monster and the Book of Pickles.

As a child, I often fantasized about characters who escaped from their books to live in our world, but I realized that if one of them were a monster, things would be unpleasant. In Library Monster and the Book of Pickles, this amusing nightmare comes true for four children, and I have to say I had a blast with them. Laurel Lorenzini described this scenario delightfully, setting the tale in a world that all children who love books will find pleasant and familiar - the library. The book is delightful to read and beautiful to admire because the illustrations are wonderful. I recommend it to all young readers who love to fantasize about the characters in their books and how they might behave if they ran away. I am sure they will have a lot of fun.

Library Monster and the Book of Pickles by Laurel Lorenzini offers a gripping adventure story for children. Today will be more than just another day for the children in the library. They trapped Howard, a ravenous book-eating monster, in a jail book. But he's on the loose again, and now tooth-marked papers and books are lying all over the floor in the library. The children will have to move fast before the library is no more. The only way to capture an escaped book character is by reading the book out loud to the character, then closing the book firmly and pressing down on the cover. But the library is vast, and Howard could be anywhere, hungrily feasting on books. Will the children capture the monster before it's too late?

The large, colorful illustrations throughout the story will hold your child's attention. The child being read to is likely to maintain interest, even if they have a short attention span, because there are just a few sentences on each page. The aura surrounding the story is charged with anticipation. It starts with intrigue and suspense as the news that the book-eating monster is roaming the shelves spreads to everyone throughout the library. Then an exciting turn of events that involves solving mysteries as a team erupts, followed by fast-paced action and even more action. All these scenes have been described and shown in high-quality art by Daniela Garcia that will pique any young reader's interest. While enjoying the exciting adventure, young readers will learn how to use the computer catalog to find books in the library. The moral lessons in The Library Monster and The Book of Pickles by Laurel Lorenzini will instill in children the value of friendship and teamwork and the importance of seeking help whenever feeling defeated. Grab a copy for your child and enjoy it together.
