Let Your Heart Be Light: A Celebration of Christmas by Pat Wahler is a Christmas-themed collection of short stories, poetry, and essays. Let Your Heart Be Light is all about the traditions, festivities, and celebrations around the Christmas season, in America in particular. The book starts off simply by a short introduction to what the book is about and is then divided into a few broad sections, each dealing with various aspects of the Christmas holidays and also the spirit of charity, generosity, and cheer that is usually associated with the season.
This book is quite a fun and enjoyable read, especially around Christmas time, since it is entirely about the joy and spirit of the season. In Let Your Heart Be Light, Pat vividly brings out the Christmas imagery that is usually associated with the holiday including snowy winters, Christmas cookies and treats, the Christmas tree with its pine smell, the excitement around opening the Christmas presents, family time, and more. The book does not touch too much upon the religious aspect of the holiday but focuses more on the cultural aspects of it, which really makes it a universal read. The stories are short and engaging and some of my favorites include The Day After Christmas –With a Cat, Laughter of the Heart, Let Your Heart Be Light, Chip and the Truth About Christmas, and more. This is a fun book for children and adults alike to read around Christmas time.
