Learn, Lead, Lift: How to Think, Act and Inspire Your Way to Greatness, by Wendy Ryan, is a powerfully inspiring guide to upping your leadership skills. It's one thing to be a boss, manager, or leader, but what kind are you? Are there areas where you could improve? Would you love some expert advice? This book is the answer to those questions and more. One of the biggest ideas Ryan has to offer in the area of change is teamwork, but to cultivate teamwork, you may need to toss out your old way and adopt a new way of thinking and inspiring others. Teams are made of individuals and lifting up each team member is what this book can help you learn to do.
It may seem like a secretive process, but this author shows how you already have the skills--you just need to recognize and develop them. Well-organized and easy to read, this book is full of tips and strategies for bringing out the strengths you have in order to Learn, Lead, and Lift your team to success. The workplace is often a dreaded place, but it doesn't have to be. Wouldn't it feel good to know your team loves coming to work for you and with you each day? There are so many takeaways in this guide using the 3T Model (Tolerating, Transforming, and Transcending), which empowers leaders with the mindset they need to have. One thing I really like about Ryan's approach is that it can be used in almost any size business or organization, from a small start-up to a non-profit to a major corporation. Its inherent design helps manage issues that may arise under your leadership such as racism and oppression.
The author's use of anecdotes, interviews, and quotes from all walks of life is quite effective and motivating. She even delves into trauma and the social/psychological aspects of behavior, addiction, and mental illness--so you are learning a comprehensive approach to leadership. If you are ready to trade your old leadership style for a fresh new one that may actually work and help everyone be better at being who they are and how they work, Learn, Lead, Lift: How to Think, Act and Inspire Your Way to Greatness by Wendy Ryan is a must-read.
