Layney’s Change of Heart is a children’s picture book by Angela Hirschy with illustrations by Grace Rapert. This faith-based story follows a blue-eyed mouse with fluffy light-gray fur named Layney. Layney is always sad because of her miserable attitude, which gives her bad thoughts. She stays alone and does not have any friends to talk to. One day, it rains heavily, and Layney’s bad thoughts return. When she gets wet, she feels worse and does not want to see anyone. Trent, a concerned brown squirrel, visits her and pleads with her to come out to play. He encourages her to try to interact with the other animals. Despite her negative attitude, Trent finds the right solution to make Layney happy and help her change her ways.
Layney’s Change of Heart is an uplifting and inspiring book that can help you live a positive life. Layney is adorable, but her attitude toward life and everything cost her friendships and happiness. I am happy Trent showed up when he did because, in real life, Layney’s attitude could have led to a dire situation. God used Trent to get to Layney and help her realize that she was pushing everyone away and it was not the other way around. Angela Hirschy does a great job of conveying this message; the beautiful illustrations perfectly complement her words. The illustrations showed clear facial expressions ideal for such an emotionally driven story. Children will love the bright colors and cute animals. I recommend parents and guardians read this book with their children and teach them the importance of having a positive attitude and making friends.
