Despite the sad state of affairs in America and the world at large, laughter and happiness are possible, as shown in Laugh Out Loud by Jack Daly. There are numerous benefits to laughter, which cleanses the mind and invigorates the body. Laughter acts as a low-impact exercise and has not just physical benefits but also psychological benefits. Laughter also has social benefits; it acts as an international language, connecting people in a world where intolerance is on the rise. There are five steps one can implement to reap the maximum benefits. Each step is allocated twelve minutes, but it is flexible. The steps include: laughing, acting, unplugging, growing, and humor. Numerous things can elicit laughter, including cartoons and favorite TV shows.
I didn't realize the importance of something as small as a smile or laughter on our physical and psychological well-being until I read Laugh Out Loud by Jack Daly. This wonderful work also clearly shows our impact on others. I loved the systematic approach Jack used and the numerous examples he provided, which make the book very effective in passing on the intended message and also actionable. I also loved the fact that the book is backed by scientific data, like the 1988 study, which shows the positive effects of laughter. This thought-provoking work also got me thinking about how the government works and how some sources of information dismissed as conspiracies could be government cover-ups. This was an impactful book, and I look forward to reading something else by Jack Daly.
