Late Conversations On Water is an excellent book of poetry by Connor Lynndan. A collection of well written poetry about real human situations. The clever use of spacing between the poems highlights the emotions and gives them perfect rhythm, whether it’s the feeling of loneliness in Two Plates And I or the intense feeling of love and loss in Mother as we follow the relationship between mother and child. The clever use of short, punchy sentences in The Dark Room conveys what it is like to be an outsider in society. The darkness of Her is haunting and not easily forgotten. A book of poems that will inspire you, make you think, make you laugh and make you cry.
Late Conversations On Water by Connor Lynndan is superb. The style of his writing reminded me of the great James Fenton as the poems are not flowery and romantic but filled with real language for real people. If you enjoy poems or short stories that are authentic, then this collection is perfect for you. I read Mother with tears in my eyes, and Her is one of the finest pieces of poetry I have ever read. Down By The River made me laugh out loud. The poem that resonated the most with me was Nature; the perfect sound of silence when you are alone couldn’t be written any better. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age, but especially newcomers to poetry as this is a great introduction to the genre.
