Lamellia: The Wicked Queen, written by Gloria D. Gonsalves and illustrated by Katerina Brunot, is a children's adventure book, involving a king, a wicked queen and the kingdom of mushrooms. It is the story of the sadness of the queen and king who cannot conceive a child, but also of the strange and magical arrival of a little human girl in this world which is not hers. It is also the story of the Lamellia people, who are mushrooms, and who decide to raise Tiara, this baby girl… but everything is not so straight-forward. Adventures are going to make the life of little Tiara more complicated and she will need the help of very strong and good characters to save her from the evil queen!
Lamellia: The Wicked Queen by Gloria D. Gonsalves is first and foremost a beautiful metaphor of our world and of the acceptance or rejection of difference. However, it is also a very enjoyable and original story for young readers as well as for parents who will no doubt tremendously enjoy reading it to their little ones. Everything in this captivating story will help parents reveal to their children the importance of showing kindness, following rules and understanding the consequences of one’s actions, whether you are a child or an adult, a citizen or a king or queen! What is more, the illustrations are magnificent and add to the beauty of this gem. That is why I highly recommend this children’s book to anyone who has young children or nieces and nephews.
