La Gran Aventura de Gabriel/Gabriel's Great Adventure by Anakarina Hurtado is an adventure-filled picture book for children. One day, whilst eating dinner, a young boy named Gabriel is told by his parents that they are going on an adventure. Gabriel is overjoyed and excited to find out where they are going. When night came, the family set off on their trip. Gabriel's excitement grew as he saw the boat they were about to board. There were many other people there too, but all Gabriel could see were the moon and stars shining through the darkness. Gabriel begins to feel scared but his mom comforts him by suggesting they count stars together. After a short while, Gabriel drifts off to sleep and begins to dream. Gabriel wakes up to see they have made it to land, but their adventure isn't over yet. Next up is to board a plane, something Gabriel had never done before. Where will Gabriel and his family be once they land and what other adventures are in store for them?
La Gran Aventura de Gabriel/Gabriel's Great Adventure was a pleasure to read. It tells the story of how a family migrates to another country, and although this book is aimed at entertaining the young reader, it will also prove to be useful when explaining immigration to children. This will lead them to be more accepting when someone new arrives in their town. Anakarina Hurtado has written this wonderful book in two languages, allowing more people to enjoy her words. The illustrations are unique and fit with the story perfectly. I'd like to wish the author all the best in her writing journey, and I hope to see more from her shortly. Good luck and keep writing!
