Krikkit’s Shoes: D’Arragon Prophecy by Jessie L. Best takes readers on an imaginary journey along with ten-year-old Krikkit to the magical kingdom of D’Arragon. Krikkit lived an ordinary and boring life and she wished her life was as exciting as the books she read; full of fantasy, sorcerers, and magic. Saturday was cleanup day and beneath her bed she came across a small, oblong wooden box. She had forgotten finding it buried in the sand at the beach one day. When she opened it, there was a different pair of beautiful shoes inside it. The shoes fitted her so well and suddenly she was lifted from the ground and taken to an unfamiliar place; the D’Arragon land and it sounded whimsical like one of the books she always read.
Whether it is Krikkit’s meeting with Jara - who wants her to protect Ivan and Quinn, the twins of the King and Queen from Hennesy - and also prevent a prophecy from happening or her adventures in D’Arragon, the story is filled with excitement, adventure, and magic and will pull readers into the book. Children will enjoy their journey to D’Arragon along with Krikkit, and every child will want to own those pair of shoes that transported her to the Kingdom of D’Arragon. The narration is descriptive and vivid and it will bring the scenes and the characters alive for readers. All the characters in the story have been sketched well and they remain memorable for a long time. Will Krikkit be able to find her way back home after all this? Will her parents be upset with her for being away for so long? Will she be able to explain about the Kingdom of D’Arragon?
