Has your child ever felt rejected or overlooked? Matt Leicester comes to the rescue with this children’s picture book, Kona Finds a Family. This sweet little story deals with the reality of rejection and teaches children that they are special just the way they are. Kona is a puppy for sale in a pet store, along with her siblings. Each time a family entered the shop, Kona hoped she would be adopted. Each time, one of her siblings was picked, leaving Kona feeling rejected. Each family was looking for a specific type of puppy, and Kona was not what they wanted. She felt that she might never be selected until, one day, a family came in with their daughter in a wheelchair. The girl immediately fell in love with Kona and told her parents that Kona had a special foot, just like she did. Read this delightful book and discover what it means to have a forever family.
Matt Leicester understands how rejection feels and addresses that problem on a child’s level in Kona Finds a Family. This book, written simply, helps children understand they are valuable even when others don’t think so. Your child will learn that a loving family is more important than what others think. Another lesson your child can learn from this book is never to give up hope. Everyone is different, and children need to learn how to accept their differences. Learning to accept others is one of the keystones of maturity. As your child learns that being different is good, they will accept themselves just as they are. Self-acceptance will go far in creating a great future for your child. I highly recommend this book to younger children.
