Knights of the Calabi-Yau by Brian White follows the story of Lex, the Calabi-Yau, as he seeks to end the nefarious plans of the Wraaken and its followers. After crossing the bridge and coming across a parallel, a wasteland, practically devoid of all life or lifeforms, Lex encounters an old friend who had deserted his quest and gone rogue. Eschaton informs him of the Wraaken’s plan to infect all the parallels until it reaches the source, thus destroying the universe. Can Lex stop them or will he lose himself in the process?
To say I was stunned by Knights of the Calabi-Yau by Brian White is an understatement. I cannot begin to describe the wondrous and complex world White has created, and quite frankly, I believe it can only be experienced by reading the book for yourself. White takes world-building to a new level with vivid descriptions and complex universal dynamics. It can be daunting to take in all the information; however, I quickly picked up on the working of things and enjoyed the fantastic journey. I particularly enjoyed the concept of Lex taking on different vessels as he traveled to other parallels, giving a different experience each time. We see how inhabiting the vessels affects him and how he deals with the resulting changes. Overall, I think this story is a masterpiece, and the enormity of the universe described reminds me of the Marvel universe, of which I’m also a huge fan. This is definitely worth reading, and I enjoyed every bit of it.
