In Kendra, the new short story released by author Grant Kniefel, we follow the story of Grant and his friend Zach as they are set to enjoy a movie together. In walks a girl that Grant’s never seen before, Kendra, and from there a twelve-hour love story ensues. Grant and Kendra share an amazing night together and, through their brief and intense evening, fall deeply in love. The love is a love neither young person has ever experienced before, and it’s clear that the young couple will look forward to sharing many more adventures and exciting times together.
Grant Kniefel’s writing style is enthusiastic, fast-paced and full of age-appropriate dialogue. In a genre where every word counts, Kendra certainly keeps the word count to a minimum. Weighing in at eighteen pages, the story can easily be read in a very short period of time and is not difficult to follow. This reviewer wonders if the story is based on a true event in author Kniefel’s life, or perhaps a dearly hoped for event. The story feels deeply personal and heartfelt. There are also several passages with bits of song lyrics, and those are very sweet.
I think Kendra would mostly appeal to young adult readers interested in a short, simple story of how a couple meets and falls in love. I look forward to seeing what Grant Kniefel produces in the future and would encourage him to keep developing his craft.
