Kakos 401 Haiku Poems by Kakos Kakos is a collection of Haiku poems. These poems are moments which have captured the poet's mind and made him put it down on paper. Haiku, as we all know, is Japanese poetry. In this collection, the author brings in his Greek background and influences and puts them down in haiku verse. The author has given a brief introduction for those who do not know about the haiku form to comprehend these verses in a better manner. Haiku captures the simple moments of your life.
I enjoyed all the haiku penned in this book. The pictures in the book manage to capture the essence of Japan and the haiku. They are stark and simple and convey a story like the poems in the book. This is a beautiful haiku:
As dawn arrives
Nightmares hide in shadows
To return again
This haiku tells us about the conflicting emotions of the poet and the contrast between light and darkness is well expressed here. There are many more profound haiku in this book like the one I have mentioned. Many of them require a couple of reads to get to the depth and understand its true meaning. The poet's observation of nature and life is reflected in his collection. His interpretation of his own thoughts and words make readers ponder for a while about life and universe. I recommend this book for lovers of poetry, especially haiku.
