"Just the Two of Us" is a great story of a single parent's joys and challenges of being a mother to a son. This story is a journey through the mind of the author Diana Chang, of her thoughts and experiences of raising a child. The author has written a much-needed guide on what to do and what not to do in parenting. She admits to talking with her son as an important advocacy tool and shares many parenting tips for loving and disciplining with love. Her quote "The Eagle Catches Baby Chicks" is in relation to how the hen would protect its chicks from the eagle. There are plenty of "hens" who always will protect their chicks. No matter how dangerous the eagle may look, the hen will provide protection to the chicks. A fascinating thought.
I thought this book was very interesting to read. The author shares a list of parenting tips that can be applied by all parents engaged in raising their children, especially when raising a child as a single parent. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because I am also a single parent. The author listed parenting tips that I will use to help advocate for my child. The most important tip I think parents can apply to their children is to talk with their children, play with their children, and give lots of hugs and plenty of love, although there are times when punishment is mandatory. Let the child always know you love him/her.
