Joshua: Between Two Worlds is the third installment of award-winning author Patricia Miller's young adult sci-fi trilogy. Joshua, the brilliant teenager from Theos, is all grown up. Apart from being involved in a steady relationship with his Earthling girlfriend, Emma, he also works for the US government in a top-secret space travel research lab. When Joshua discovers that the Theosians had been in contact with Earthlings since his parents found a way twenty years ago, he promptly confronts Official Graham of Theos. But there are other problems on the horizon as a group of renegade Theosians had been stealing chemicals from Earth to make drugs and sell them on other worlds. Soon, Joshua and his friends find themselves caught in the midst of an increasingly hostile situation between US forces and the Theosian military. Can Joshua prevent an all-out war?
An adventure saga sci-fi lovers should not miss, Joshua: Between Two Worlds is the tale of an alien young adult and his friends navigating romance, friendship, and top-government secrets as they come to terms with the real world. Patricia Miller crafts some likable characters with distinct traits and strengths that create a colorful and vibrant dynamic between the group of friends. Joshua is a brilliant scientist, although naive in some worldly affairs such as romance. Emma is his thoughtful and compassionate girlfriend who quickly grasps the dynamics of a situation with a maturity far ahead of her age. Mani is an eccentric genius. Their friendship provides the narrative thrust to the story. I very much enjoyed the book and recommend it to young adult sci-fi readers.
