Josh Anvil and the Pivotal Weapon is a work of fiction in the epic fantasy genre and is the second installment in the Josh Anvil series. It is aimed at young adult readers and was penned by Bruce Arrington. The book continues the adventures of Josh Anvil and his friend Troy as they arrive on a new planet to explore. But their attempts to help the locals incur the wrath of the alien conquerors of this new world, and now they find themselves dragged into a war that has raged for thousands of years without their familiar abilities to help them survive.
There’s a lot of fun to be found in the pages of this book with entertaining tropes like pizza-loving teenagers on a galactic adventure. The world of Josh Anvil is as vivid and diverse as ever, with new planets, aliens, and more interesting abilities being introduced into the lore of this very engaging YA series. Bruce Arrington proves to be a skilled writer who can conceive of the most entertaining yet eclectic ideas and blend them into a narrative that makes consistent sense. What follows is a wild rollercoaster with laughs, drama, and even high emotional stakes that I won’t spoil here. Josh Anvil and the Pivotal Weapon demonstrates the tremendous potential of blending high fantasy and pulp science fiction into one single playground for characters to have an adventure in. It brings excellent prose and engaging characters to give the reader for an unforgettable experience.
