Author Biography

I've been writing children's books for about three years and the reason for their existence is my daughter, Seraphina, now aged 8. A voracious consumer of stories, she made me make her up a story every night for years! One day, after I had run out of stories about child-eating trolls raiding her local school, I thought about her grandmother. A wise woman, and mother of ten - I pitted her against a supernatural child snatcher in her home country of Guyana. That story - which never made it into The Granny JJ Adventures - was the start. Since then I've written 2 other books and then my daughter wanted to be put into the daily Bible story. That was the beginning of Jesus and Me: One Child's Friendship with the Son of God.

The many stories of Jesus clearly show his love for children. “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them. For to such as these belong the kingdom of heaven.” The stories we hear in the New Testament are told by Jesus’s followers, his disciples, all adults. But, what about these children whom he loved so much? What about their stories? We can only surmise that children, like little Imma, had wonderful, loving stories about their experiences with Jesus. Imma heard many of Jesus’s stories and she was able to talk to him, simply, as a child would. She asked him simple questions, like “Are you saying that your teachings are like spiritual food?” This was after she had witnessed first-hand the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes. Jesus was able to talk to her at her level of understanding without making her feel insignificant. “You are my littlest disciple, Imma.”

Now, perhaps the Imma of these stories never existed, but there must have been many other children who met Jesus, interacted with him and learned from him – other littlest disciples. Joshua Cartwright’s children’s story, Jesus and Me: One Child’s Friendship with the Son of God, provides another look at the well-known stories of the Bible, a look through the eyes of children. This may be written for children, but since we are all children of God and must believe as children believe, then these stories are relevant to us older children as well. The illustrations carry the story along and the useful author note to parents helps explain the use of scripture to present a fictional story of a possible encounter between one child and Jesus. A wonderful learning tool to expand one’s faith, written for children of all ages.

This book is wonderfully done. You can feel the gentle nature of Jesus and his loving hand towards children. It is a great way to show kids what it may have been like to walk with him. I loved how Cartwright truly got into the brain of a child as Imma asked questions, yet had nervous feelings as well. He also stayed true to history and added nice touches to give you a sense of being there like: goat hair pillows. Well written and a great message of the love of Jesus.

A very special book that brings the love of Jesus to life in a way that is not only easy to understand but that also inspires and encourages. It reminded me that Jesus is my best friend and helped me to reconnect with my inner child. This book is one that can be enjoyed by all ages. The story left me with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. This book truly blessed me. I highly recommend it.

I loved this Book! The writing was so vivid and engaging that I felt like I was traveling with Imma and the Messiah from story to story. The author really put alot of thought into each chapter. The mixture of a fictional character that is a child with the biblical teachings of Jesus really helps to educate the reader about the greatness of faith and the power of the Christ. This book is a great teaching tool for kids, teachers and parents.

I would give more than 5 stars for this book if I could! For me, one is a delightful Christian book for children I've ever read. That teaches you kindness, warmhearted, patience through the eyes of a girl Imma. Thank you so much!!!

Jesus and Me is a wonderfully refreshing Christian children's book. There are several things which set this book apart from many others out there.

The story is well paced, and each chapter can be a sitting, for example, before bed. The phrasing of the stories, and the topics covered, allow (and I would encourage) discussion and exploration!

The quoted scripture is of a version (ESV) which is both comfortable and acceptable to most schools of thought and belief. The scripture is used appropriately, and paraphrases of scripture and other inferences are clearly distinguished.

My personal experience of God is rather...progressive... compared to many evangelical Christian books, and still, the theology of the author is clear yet leaves room for a family to include their own experiences and interpretations. This is very difficult to do, and Joshua did a great job with this. I would not give the book 5 stars if it felt like a theology was forced, especially for the tender faith of children!

I truly love this story! It is so hard to find Christian books for young children. I love how the author intertwined Jesus's words from the Bible into this book. I also love that translations were provided to give meaning of Biblical words used in the book. Imma is such an innocent and likable character with realistic traits that many young children have. This book is great to show the love of Jesus. I recommend this book for young children, but also adults. It can be read together as a family and can open to wonderful discussions. This is the second book I read by Joshua Cartwright and definitely will not be my last. He has such a wonderful way with words and can tell a story so nicely.

This book is simple perfection! The author captures the amazing innocence of children and Jesus' faithful love for all. The story presents a foundation of patience, curiosity, and kindness through the eyes of a young girl, Imma. The short stories create historical references that engages and teaches young ones the journey and power of Christ and has the power to bring families closer to Jesus. Based on scripture, the author ensured footnotes were available for reference. It's engaging, beautifully illustrated, and informative. I highly recommend in homes and churches everywhere!

I have been looking for a fun way to teach my children the word of God during our devotion time, and this book is it. I loved how the author used Imma and her perspective to tell the Bible stories, it makes the stories so relatable. Whenever you read a bible story to kids, you look for ways to make it relatable to their lives. This book does that. It reminds me of super book, which is a fun bible curriculum. Excellent job sharing God’s word in such a fun and unique way. The lessons and messages are very clear and encouraging!

A delight. Cleverly and empathetically written from the point of view of a child. Therefore this makes a lovely and special story book about Jesus for home use, as for one of my Christmas presents. In school (I am an experienced Primary School teacher in the UK), I have just ordered sixteen copies as a class set. Absolutely super as a resource for teaching, cleverly split into 'bite size' chunks
