Many of us use passages in the Bible as a means of spiritual and moral guidance but how accurate are the events in the New Testament? Have the details and timelines of pivotal situations and stories been sabotaged or manipulated by the Roman Empire to replace facts with propaganda? Using historical and archaeological facts and logic, Jacob's Favourite Son by Liam Patterson aims to dissect the authenticity of testimonies and statements to uncover the truth. The arguments presented are non-biased and objective, leaving the reader to come to their own conclusions. The New Testament has been often criticized for its lack of consistency but there still remains much confusion concerning the writers, dates, and interpretations. Is the New Testament a factual book that we must adhere to without question, or have the details in the scriptures been lost in translation over the generations?
The premise of Jacob's Favourite Son by Liam Patterson really intrigued me. I have to say that I was very impressed by the amount of research that has clearly been involved in creating such a thought-provoking analysis. You really need to read the book with an open mind because the intelligent arguments and strong reasoning along with biblical passages made perfect sense. I was particularly interested in the analysis of the Great Jewish Revolt, the existence of John the Baptist, and the events surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Some of the incidents that are presented as factual, such as the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, would mean the Jewish elders agreed to break Jewish laws; this was an especially compelling argument. I did think the statement by Liam that we use the Bible in a court of law as an object of truth and morality most profound. The author does not attempt to prejudice the reader in any way, he just presents the evidence and allows you to decide. This is an absolute must-read.
