Italian Bones in the Snow depicts the life of an Italian-American girl and her unique views about different subjects: religion, music, spirituality feminity, reincarnation, Reiki, patriarchy, and more. Elaina Battista-Parsoms also shares some interesting information about her Italian roots, including growing up with an Italian mother who cooked without cookbooks because the ingredients "were part of her instinct and memory of what she saw growing up." In Elaina's story, we see the unique things that make her who she is, narrated in artistic language and deep, introspective observations. Whether it's the dreamy poems that paint pictures in your mind or the captivating stories about the author's past lovers, Italian Bones in the Snow contains different engaging elements that guarantee a most wonderful, memorable, and exuberant experience.
This is no ordinary memoir! Elaina Battista-Parsoms' life experiences and opinions are depicted with some notably artistic and poetic expressions that would inspire and challenge the best of writers. Through a collection of deeply thoughtful essays and poems that are intriguingly honest, humorous, and descriptive, the book immerses readers in a true story that strongly portrays culture, history, and an individual's peculiar taste regarding different aspects of life. Italian Bones in the Snow has some fascinating observations and thoughts that are hard to forget, like when the author considered running a marathon because she knew she had strong legs but remembered she also had to use her hands. I seriously loved the different poems and their upbeat and infectious tones. A particular poem about gumballs is filled with bright colors and contains a delicious collection of fruits. Fans of poems and memoirs that mainly portray culture, wonder, and youthful romance should definitely read this enchanting memoir.
