Dragonflies are drawn toward the eleven year old Iris. She even has a dragonfly birthmark. They are not supposed to talk with her, but she can understand them. Iris and Grace are school mates. They discovered they can communicate with each other without speaking.
One summer Iris and her family travel to Ireland to meet her father’s family. Cormac and her grandmother Clara share the legends of the area, including the story of the dragon’s tooth. Iris finds the tooth and takes it home with her.
Unbeknownst to Iris or her family someone is watching Iris, wondering if she is the one. Is Iris the answer to the fight between good and evil? When she returns to Canada a class project leads Iris closer to learning her true destiny.
Iris and the Dragonflies is a delightful story. I quickly became immersed in the story of Iris. The editing is well done. The characters are well developed, likable, and exquisite. The plot has an air of mystical magic that will keep juveniles reading. I eagerly turned the pages to see what would happen next. While there is much action in this book the author does not depend on sensationalism to carry the plot. I love this book.
Rosemary Daniels is an extremely talented author. She brings a breath of fresh air to her book. I can hardly wait to see what she offers readers next. The author does push the connection between mother earth, pollution and nature. This is the first book in a series. The author has carefully laid the ground work for what I believe will be a best seller. I read and review a lot of books each month. Rarely does one grab me the way this book has. Rosemary Daniels is a name to watch.
