Into Forbidden by Regina Puckett is a science fiction story about the intimidating city of Freedom. After the Great War, the world collapsed and become a tough place to live. Harmony doesn't want to visit the high walled city that is ruled by the Overseers, huge robots that resemble spiders. But she's on a journey to rescue her brother and cousin from their jail cell in Freedom. With the help of two broken down robots, Harmony decides to steal a steam engine to help with her escape plan, but if she thought it was difficult to get into Forbidden, getting out alive is even worse.
I think science fiction fans will enjoy this story. I especially enjoyed the two robots who helped Harmony and become the comic relief friends of the adventure. They reminded me a lot of R2D2 and C2PO from Star Wars and added a much needed element of energy and entertainment into this adventure tale that was a little dark. There was a lot going against Harmony right from the start of this tale. Her journey was nearly impossible and the outcome was never very good or in her favor, but she never gave up. Her sense of duty to her family members was the most important thing that drove her on her journey, and I think other readers will admire that and connect with her drive, determination, and fierce, competitive spirit. Never give up! Great message!
