I wrote this book because I was reflecting on my life one day and thinking of all the situations I've been in. It reminded me of a movie. A lot of movies are based on books so I wanted to tell my story and hopefully a lot of people can relate to some of the emotions and obstacles I have dealt with.

Inside The Soul of A Man is the frank and shocking tale of a young man trying to find his way in the world amid a backdrop of poverty, violence and racism. Jason Taylor relates the heartbreaking story of a young boy through the years to adulthood in a world which neither likes nor accepts him. From the age of seven, the boy is tortured emotionally and physically by his violent father, and the daily ritual of beatings and being witness to horrific domestic violence becomes the norm. The young boy grows up in a world where he has been abandoned and judged by everyone in authority. The young boy, however, strives to be a success, but his inner feelings of being unworthy of love and happiness always drag him back to trouble and violence.
Inside The Soul Of A Man is a hard-hitting, brutal story of life through the eyes of an abused child, and the ramifications of that neglect and violence as the boy reaches adulthood. The journal format used by Jason Taylor is perfect for this genre. The excellent, descriptive language used is very authentic of a boy from that background and generation, and gives the story a raw realism. The accounts of family violence and abuse are, at times, harrowing and blood curdling and not for the faint of heart, neither are the tales of the boy's sexual experiences. Although it was brutal, I found the story overall quite tragic and heartbreaking. A good read which leaves you with images that are hard to forget.
