I'm Not Talking About You, Of Course… by Barbara Venkataraman is a very witty look at real humor, the kind that we observe every day as we go about our lives. Barbara starts off by taking a look at some of the crazy things that pet owners do with, for, and about their pets, but she is certainly not talking about the reader as she points those out, right? She also looks at irrational fears from lightning strikes to fear of bears while living in Florida. From there, she goes into an examination of a long list of hilarious irrational fears, one of which is hippotomonstro… (oh, just read the book). Have you ever thrown your back out by sneezing or do you enjoy a hobby that is just a little on the side of lunacy? Barbara’s book touches on these things and more in a way that will keep you in stitches as you flip from one page to the next and even do a few “back flips” to see if you actually, really read what you just read.
If you are someone who enjoys real humor that you see in the crazy people around you, but not in yourself, of course, then Barbara Venkataraman’s book is a must-read. The stories are quick and easy to digest and will have the reader snorting with laughter. Though these stories are most certainly about people “other than the reader”, there is always that outside chance she is talking about you. For that reason alone, this book needs to be on your shelf.
