IDEA 33 - A Regeneration by Sheala Dawn Henke is a fantastic science fiction/fantasy tale that will thrill readers. The story revolves around three teens. Dous was born with a disease that causes his bones to break easily, leaving him in a wheelchair most of the time. Heli has never felt loved by his parents; even though he is extremely intelligent he has anger issues. Terra has been tortured by bullies, leaving her fearful. Tracy Dodd collects each of the teens and brings them to the institute. All three have special but undeveloped powers that the institute plans to use to save Earth. The three have no idea they even have special powers or that they were created for this purpose. Earth has been damaged by the greed and selfishness of humans; only through the institute’s plan can Earth be saved.
IDEA 33 offers hope to a world filled with pollution and food shortages. Mankind has forgotten the command he was given in the Garden of Eden. He was given dominion over all of living creatures on Earth. Instead of caring for them, he has destroyed their habitat. Sheala Dawn Henke successfully demonstrates the way man has placed himself above God. While I very much enjoyed this tale, I couldn’t help but think that IDEA 33 was also playing God. Heli, Dous and Tara were delightful characters and worked well together. I really cared about them. I was surprised to see how quickly Tara’s personality matured. The romance between Tara and Heli was sweet and gave the plot a deeper dimension. I suspect this book may be the first in a series. Kudos to Sheala Dawn Henke for reminding humans to be kind to the earth and placing that message in a great read.
