I Injured My Foot Doing the Mashed Potato by James Robinson, Jr. is a delightfully fun book that causes the senses to dance with joy. Robinson tells stories of his life to which many of us can relate. He and I are about the same age, and his tales brought back many fond memories. The younger generation will enjoy learning how life used to be along with the humor found in everyday living. He covers many facets of life, from summer camp as a child, vacations, and his strong distaste for the woods, to his admiration of bats and asks: "Why do we use the word love for objects that are not human? Should it not be reserved for our connection with another human?"
Doesn’t everyone love stories about Christmas? James Robinson, Jr. includes several stories about his thoughts on Christmas in I Injured My Foot Doing the Mashed Potato. His stories are based on his life and share the views of a Baby Boomer with a writing style that is personable and homey and feels as if he is sitting next to you relating his latest exploits. This is a feel-good book and you will enjoy reading about his various adventures and how they shaped his life. The photos and illustrations scattered throughout add even more humor to the mix. There are some mild oaths and mention of the F word; otherwise, the stories are great to share with your children or grandchildren about how life used to be lived.
