I Have Always Wanted To... by Lisa V. Proulx is a heartrending memoir where the author speaks about her life and her journey after being diagnosed with uterine cancer at the age of 51. Her realization that the time to start living is NOW because the ‘someday’ might never come forms the message she conveys through her journey. She uses the phrase ‘I have always wanted to’ instead of ‘bucket list’ because of her dislike for that expression. The author’s life story is uplifting and motivating and will encourage readers to live in the moment instead of keeping things for that ‘someday’ to come. It is a story of courage, hope, determination, and self belief, and gives hope, confidence, and reassurance to many readers who are going through bad phases in their lives.
I like the way the author handled the dark phase of her life and turned it into a positive one. Her attitude and approach to the disease and that phase of her life are commendable and her words will inspire, heal, and motivate readers to get moving with their lives. The blank list at the end of the book is a good idea and readers will know what they want to do with their lives when they list their plans, desires, and dreams. Motivational books are good to read and spread peace, love, and joy to readers, just like this one. The author’s travels are enchanting and will make readers want to put on their traveling boots and explore new lands and places. As the title suggests, do not wait to lose your life; start living it now.
