Hunter of the Song (Unholy Magic Saga Book 2) by Eliza Tilton sees Arabella and Edgard attacked by members of an evil cult as they camp for the night. They are assisted by the mysterious merchant named Chaos, and his wolf, Mange. Chaos introduces Maddi, who helps her father run the inn in the village of Wychwood. When a dead girl is found with the same makings as Arabella, the young people share their deepest secrets. The girls are attacked and Maddi is kidnapped. Meanwhile, Leo has been grieving because he believes Arabella is dead. He is amazed to see her alive and determined to rejoin her. Can they all work together to rescue Maddi?
Hunter of the Song by Eliza Tilton is an appealing young adult fantasy adventure. I liked the character of Arabella, whose first thought was to save others around her. Leo was a unique dark romantic lead, although I wasn’t sure whether he would always be the right man for Arabella. I appreciated Leo, Chaos, and Edgard putting aside their ideological differences to save their loved ones. The action scenes were exciting and I especially liked the brave manner in which the girls defended themselves. This book is part of a series, and I had not read the previous volume, but I found the plot easy to pick up in this one. The narrative covered an incident that was complete in itself, but cleverly introduced an element resulting from Edgard’s actions, which left me keen to read the next volume.
