Hunt For Redemption by Susan Mills Wilson is a gripping suspense story. Tim and Abby broke up in high school and went their own ways. Tim went on to play in the NFL and now owns a bar. He is contented with his present way of life and his casual girlfriend. One day his life takes an unexpected turn. When Tim arrives at his bar, Abby is sitting at a table, drinking a cocktail and looking beautiful. They haven't seen each other in eight years. Why has she shown up now? Later that night, after Tim closes the bar, he meets Abby at the pier. To his astonishment, she announces that they have a son. Although Abby gave him up at birth and isn't his legal guardian, she is concerned for his welfare. She has a strong reason to believe that their son is in danger.
A few months back, a policeman had approached her about a religious cult and asked her if she had any associations with it. Stunned, she denied any knowledge of the church faction. After the policeman left, Abby researched the cult. She found out it is a dangerous, subversive group preparing to fight against the federal government. It is hiding under the guise of a Bible believing church and recruiting men by using their attractive female followers. Abby discovers that her son's adoptive mother has been recruited as a follower. Neither their son nor his adoptive mother has been seen or heard from in a year. Reeling from the fact that he has a son, Tim allows Abby to persuade him to help her rescue their child. Together they enlist the help of an insider.
Hunt For Redemption by Susan Mills Wilson is an exciting and disturbing novel. I loved this book. The content is a little frightening, which is a good indication that it is done well. It is a chilling story about how far a radical cult member will go to achieve his desires. I was on tenterhooks until I reached the conclusion. It is a terrifying look into the way a normal person can be brainwashed and inducted into a cult. The story gives a small inkling of how very difficult it is to escape its powerful clutches. It is quite disturbing and realistic the way the leaders of the cult manipulated vulnerable people, essentially making them their slaves. This is an eye-opening thriller and I recommend it for those who love a great suspense story with a disquieting edge. It contains a small amount of violence and a touch of sexual innuendo, and would be appropriate for those well over the age of thirteen.
