Nic Roc lives in Nassau, Bahamas with her dive master/instructor husband. It is also where she has raised her three children. Nic loves to swim and was once a swimming instructor and coach. Her inspiration to write comes from having spent many hours running a swim summer camp for children. How to Get on the Naughty List is a holiday-themed children’s picture book written by Nic Rock and illustrated by Helen H. Wu. Chooka Chunk was flabbergasted by the note she saw hanging on her family’s Christmas tree. Santa Claus had actually written to her, and he was not at all happy with her behavior. Chooka tries to be good, but often she just can’t resist getting into trouble. Chooka hates going to bed on time, and really doesn’t like to clean her room. Her behavior has to improve if she’s to stay off the Naughty List. But when she eats the cookies left out for Santa, she’s really in hot water. Chooka’s parents are at their wits’ end, until they realize who might just be able to help keep Chooka off the Naughty List -- but have they called her in time?
Nic Rock’s holiday-themed children’s picture book, How to Get on the Naughty List, is an engaging and entertaining story about a little girl who just can’t behave, even though she’s about to be put on Santa’s Naughty List. Her story is told in a charming rhyme that should be as much fun to read aloud as it will be to listen to it, and the pranks Chooka Chunk pulls are hilarious! Helen Wu’s illustrations capture the mischievous six-year-old and her antics perfectly. Each panel is bold and brightly colored, and the expressions on Chooka’s face are priceless. While parents and caregivers might want to caution their young charges not try Chooka’s pranks at home, everyone will have a grand time wondering if Chooka does manage to stay off that dreaded list. How to Get on the Naughty List is most highly recommended.
