How to Bury Your Dog is a slice-of-life drama novel by Eva Silverfine. It's been years since Lizzy Whitacre allowed herself to socialize, choosing to spend her days cooped up at home with her animal companions when not working at a blood lab. But after her beloved adopted basset hound leaves this world, Lizzy feels more lost than ever. To add to her woes, the local Bartons Mill Pond is set to be turned into a real-estate development project. As a local environmental group fights to protect the wetland, Lizzy's old friend Russ, a high school teacher, seeks her help to convince other property owners to oppose the project. Adding to the mix are two eccentric high school students who try to help the cause in their own ways. Can the inhabitants of Centreville protect their heritage?
A timely and captivating environmental drama novel, How to Bury Your Dog, couldn't be more relevant than our current times when relentless advancements in infrastructure and real-estate projects come at the cost of impacting the very health of the planet itself. Author Eva Silverfine's character-driven narrative adds a sense of authenticity to the story, making it relatable and thoroughly riveting to read. Lizzy is a grounded and likable protagonist who deals with her inner grief by isolating herself and shutting off from the real world. But Lizzy comes alive once she gets the opportunity to be a part of something she used to be deeply passionate about and thought she had lost. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.
