Honor Bound Book 2 by Athena Ryals is the second book in a series and a wonderful read with strong LGBTQ themes and fascinating characters. The story follows Isaac, a character whose family has endured a lot of pain from the brutal Stormbeck syndicate. With Gray just recovering from a fatal wound and after the escape of Tori and Vera from the vicious grip of the Stormbeck, the family is on the run. Isaac wants to rebuild his tattered family, somewhere far away from the eyes of the syndicate. When everything is set to settle down, a shadow from the past reappears and they are thrown into a new debacle, as deadly as what they left behind. Can Isaac heal his family, mend the wounds of the past, and defeat the powerful Stormbeck syndicate?
Honor Bound Book 2 is a well-written and compelling story with characters that are memorable. Once you’re done reading this story, names like Gavin, Tori, Vera, Isaac, Ellis, and others will stick in your memory because the story is so intelligently written that the characters come to life and claim a world of their own. Of the characters to hate, you will hate them with all your strength; those you will love, you’ll ache for. The author knows how to create reality and humanity in the characters, putting them in situations that strike strong emotional chords. Athena Ryals provides sufficient backstory for those who haven’t read the first book in the series, building sophistication into the characters and evoking a world rife with tension and conflict. Honor Bound is never lacking in realism, in action, nor in moments that grip the reader emotionally from the very first page. Athena Ryals has a strong gift for storytelling and for creating conflict that moves the plot steadily forward.
