His Amish Baby by Jacqueline Hopper and Tattie Maggard begins with an exciting scene. Raim is preparing for his wedding, but the preparations are interrupted by the arrival of Alyssa, carrying a baby. The shocked young man accepts responsibility for the child, and Alyssa moves into his parents’ home because she is destitute. Alyssa discovers that the Amish way of life has much to offer, and Raim will discover the true nature of his feelings for Alyssa. There will be a few bumps along the way, as Alyssa has a secret that she fears will turn Raim against her, but his Amish heart is large enough to forgive. Raim’s fiancée will make her own decisions about the whole matter.
His Amish Baby by Jacqueline Hopper and Tattie Maggard was a wholesome, feel-good romance with a touch of drama. The Schwartz family members are well developed as characters and had their own unique way of talking. I really enjoyed the tension between the modern lifestyle and traditional Amish values. The authors adroitly hinted at a love triangle that caught my interest, although as it turned out, the cast had more players than initially expected! The narrative was smooth and enjoyable. The authors made expert use of dramatic irony, using cleverly placed hints to lead the reader to suspect certain matters before the characters developed an awareness. Alyssa’s secret did not match the moral tone of the story, but the authors quickly employed the drama it caused to highlight the need for compassion. His Amish Baby would be the perfect weekend read for the reader who enjoys well-written, clean love stories.
