Heather in a Tempest by Sandra H. Esch is the second book in the Chronicles of Amber Leaf series. The story is about Oliver M. Harrington as he is trying to rebuild his life and make it work once again. Married again to a woman he loves and respects, he is looking forward to starting his family and becoming a father. However, fate is playing a twisted game with him as he finds out that his new wife is barren. To make it worse for him, he receives a strange letter from someone from England who claims to be his daughter. He is worried that someone is trying to blackmail him, but what if she really is his daughter? What if it is fate’s way of giving him the family that he craves? More importantly, what is he going to do?
This is a wonderful, very well written historical story, one that took me all the way back to 1916 with Oliver. The author did a great job in creating a believable little place where these characters were living. Oliver is such a complicated yet predictable man. He is predictable because he is human; his needs, demands and wants are all that you would expect from a man who craves a family of his own. His dilemma was a tough one; he wanted to believe this person was his daughter, but at the same time, he didn’t want to because that would be a stain on his honor. I wanted the best for him; I wanted him to have what he wanted. I enjoyed the flow, the progress and the development of the story. Every high and low added a new layer to the story and made it even more entertaining!
