Health in Flames: A Doctor's Prescription for Living Beyond Diet and Exercise by Vimal Thomas George, MD is a nonfiction health book. He explains that you need more than exercise and a healthy diet to combat chronic health problems like arthritis and diabetes. He discusses how fighting consumerism will help everyone's health including the earth and the animals. He advises readers on how to achieve financial security and how that will make them healthier and happier. Dr. George suggests ways that we can get the government to help by voting for more enlightened policies. He uses charts and drawings to illustrate his explanations and provides an alternate reality to show how things could be.
I thought that Health in Flames by Vimal Thomas George MD was intriguing. Warning: if you are an introvert, like me, you might not appreciate some of his ideas. The gist of this book is that being a minimalist is healthy. I appreciated that he didn't force readers into a vegan or vegetarian diet, which was refreshing. I loved the cute drawings as they helped prove his points. The policies he proposed were fascinating, especially when discussing the food companies. I enjoyed the way Dr. George used an alternative reality story to show how things could be if we changed. If you are like me and have chronic health issues, this book might just give you ideas to discuss with your doctor. It's also helpful if you just need a change.
