Heal Your Memories: Heal the Past to Move on to a Phenomenal Present and Future by Frank Healy is an intriguing book. Although it started off rather slowly, it turned out to be quite a good read. The unique proposal that memory recall can be used to heal the damage done by bad experiences in our lives is unique and insightful. This book walks the reader through a series of exercises that help to build the ability to recall and retain memories. It also helps to teach the reader to put more weight on the happy memories and to separate us from the bad memories in order for us to be able to learn from them.
As someone who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, I was drawn to this book out of curiosity. I was skeptical that it would provide any significant insight, but I was pleasantly surprised. There was a point in particular that really stuck with me. The author talks about how many of us, myself included, imagine the worst outcome so that we can avoid disappointment. This focus creates unnecessary anxiety in anticipation of this negative outcome. I had never thought of it like that before and there is wisdom and truth in it, as there is in many of the points made in this book. The step-by-step exercises are easy to follow and I look forward to trying them all in depth to see how they can help me to put some of my memories to rest. Heal Your Memories: Heal the Past to Move on to a Phenomenal Present and Future by Frank Healy is well-written, well-edited, and easy to follow and comprehend.
