On the same day, a hurricane and an earthquake hit Pondville, a town in Nova Scotia, Canada. At first, there does not seem to be any major damage, but then the inhabitants — including Sheriff Harry — discover that the courthouse building is leaning and a huge sinkhole has opened next to it. Meanwhile, a group of friends, including two pelicans, an alligator, and a cow, is found on the beach. The hurricane brought them there from Florida, and their arrival in such a difficult situation is valuable to the inhabitants of Pondville. The group has an in-depth knowledge of sinkholes and knows how to act. Will our heroes be able to work together and fix things? Read Harry and the Hurricane by Dr. Robert A. Ernst to find out.

Harry and the Hurricane can be read as a standalone book even though it is the fifth in the series. This is good if, as it happened to me, this is the first book you read. Dr. Robert A. Ernst is a great writer who knows how to keep young readers' attention; the fact that the characters are animals will fascinate and entertain them. My favorite is definitely Sawyer the Pelican for his unpredictable behavior, but Sheriff Harry also sticks in my memory — especially after he approaches the bears to solve the sinkhole problem. The moral is significant because it shows the importance of cooperation and teamwork. I recommend Harry and the Hurricane to all young readers who enjoy fantastic characters and stories that teach them something special.
