Montgomery Brown, or Monty, is a 4th grader and an aspiring scientist. Monty and his friends, Ozzy and Brianna, are members of the Science Club, where they do fun experiments after school. But Monty often falls victim to a bully, Bobbie Bifford, and his gang, which he nicknamed the Cackle. One day, Monty was trying to get away from the Cackle when he turned into a narrow street with just one shop. The shop named Oscar's Outpost had many unusual items on its shelves. Encouraged by the proprietor, Monty chose a book about science experiments. He brought the book home and tried one of the experiments. The result exceeded all his expectations. With Halloween just around the corner, will Monty get his revenge on the Cackle and teach them a lesson? Halloween Monster Hatch by O. K. Potts, the first book in a series, is a compelling read for children aged nine and up.
In Halloween Monster Hatch, O. K. Potts tells the story of a kid able to think outside the box. Monty faces a big problem with the bullies and hopes to outsmart them. He is always ready to learn and is not afraid to try something new. I liked Potts' well-crafted characters and dramatic twists and turns in the plotline. Halloween Monster Hatch is an entertaining, inspirational, and thought-provoking book at the same time. The author offers vivid imagery and a non-trivial approach to the topic of monsters and how to create them. Halloween Monster Hatch is interactive as Potts leaves blank pages for children to imagine and draw magical items or monsters of their own. Finally, there are touching and uplifting final scenes that bring the story to a logical conclusion. I highly recommend Halloween Monster Hatch to young fans of science fiction and fantasy and hope to read more in this promising series.
