Author Biography

As a former registered nurse, Nancy J. Cohen helped people with their physical aches and pains, but she longed to soothe their troubles in a different way. The siren call of storytelling lured her from nursing into the exciting world of fiction. Wishing she could wield a curling iron with the same skill as crafting a story, she created hairdresser Marla Vail as a stylist with a nose for crime and a knack for exposing people’s secrets.

Titles in The Bad Hair Day Mysteries have been named Best Cozy Mystery by Suspense Magazine, won a Readers’ Favorite gold medal and a RONE Award, earned first place in the Chanticleer International Book Awards and third place in the Arizona Literary Awards. Nancy’s instructional guide, Writing the Cozy Mystery, was nominated for an Agatha Award, earned first place in the Royal Palm Literary Awards and the Topshelf Magazine Book Awards, and won a gold medal in the President’s Book Awards. Her imaginative romances have proven popular with fans as well. These books have won the HOLT Medallion and Best Book in Romantic SciFi/Fantasy at The Romance Reviews.

A featured speaker at libraries, conferences, and community events, Nancy is listed in Contemporary Authors, Poets & Writers, and Who’s Who in U.S. Writers, Editors, & Poets. She is a past president of Florida Romance Writers and Mystery Writers of America Florida Chapter. When not busy writing, Nancy enjoys cooking, fine dining, cruising, and visiting Disney World.

Hair Brained by Nancy J. Cohen is the fourteenth book in the Bad Hair Day Mystery series. The worst has happened for Marla Vail. Her closest friends Tally and Ken were in a terrible accident. When Ken’s pronounced dead at the scene and Tally is in a coma, custody of their four-month-old son Luke goes to Marla. Suddenly she sees what life would be like with an infant and this sends her world into a confusing tailspin. As she balances out her job with the requirements of caring for a baby, Marla also helps her husband tackle the case. The closer she gets to uncovering the truth, the more secrets she uncovers that her best friend has been hiding and this could make Marla next target.

Nancy J. Cohen’s latest mystery may be one of her most emotional after a car accident leaves her best friend in a coma. The story presents an awakening for Marla which she’s completely unprepared for as she’s abruptly thrust into this new role. As she digs deeper into the life and marriage of her best friend, she’s shocked to uncover secret after secret that leads Marla to believe maybe she doesn’t know her friend as well as she thought. This ups the stakes in the mystery as Marla is discovering information that changes everything she knew about her friend. This is an emotional mystery that has a lot of heart and delivers insane twists, one right after the other, as the danger increases for Marla when a dire turn of events could cost her everything. Hair Brained delivers the best mystery yet for Marla and her family and delivers new surprises, shake-ups, an emotional case, and a shocking turn of events.
