Good Night Evil by Estela Vazquez Perez is a collection of five interesting, mystical short stories. "Embraced by the Cemetery" is about an abused wife and suspected murderer who took refuge under the wings of an angel in a cemetery. In "Amorosa’s Garden," three sisters visit Amorosa, a mysterious diviner. Two are in search of true love, and the third is not in search of anything. In "Prince of Light," mankind is suffering the worst day in history as angels and demons fight over the souls of men. The narrator is a soul that, fearing judgment, has confined itself to earth for over 200 years. "The Bell Rang 30 Times" is a bittersweet love story. "Incorrupt Passion" is like Romeo and Juliet gone right, but with more intensity and dedication.
All five stories in the book were unusual and interesting. Each tale left me with a different emotion - happy, sad, curious, and even scared. I appreciated that the stories were neither predictable nor overly dramatic, and I was impressed with this book’s editing. The narrative perspective varied with each account, but it never failed to capture the essence of the story. The stories had no precise location, but considering the events and objects portrayed, most seem to be set in small towns during the last century. If you like mystical or romantic stories, then you will enjoy this book. I savored every page of Good Night Evil by Estela Vazquez Perez, and I believe it deserves five stars.
