In Glyphbinder (Tales of the Five Provinces Book 1) by T. Eric Bakutis, Kara was desperate to put an end to her mother's suffering. Her plan was to force her own soul to switch places with her mother's so she would live in the ailing body and allow her mother to enjoy a healthy body. She had gone to great lengths and taken on impossible tasks to put together all that she needed to accomplish the task. Now she was just one step away from getting her wish, but this final part of the task would also be the most challenging. The final stage required her to earn the place of royal apprentice so she could travel to the city of Tarna where her final component lay. Unknown to Kara, her fate was sealed in her blood long before she was born, and now a powerful, faceless enemy is determined to get her soul. After a mage in possession of a dead elder's soul manages to breach the Solyr security, it is decided that Kara, with the help of her friend, will outsmart the enemy and sneak out of the city. However, the enemy is equally smart and a lot more cunning, and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. As long defeated darkness begins rise again, nobody is safe.
