Getting Home by J.R. Poulter and Muza Ulasowski is an interesting and educational book for children that revolves around polar bears and how global warming is slowly making them an endangered species. Little Polar Bear is looking for his mother, brother, Gunar, and best friend, Nanuk. He goes onto the ice cliff, though his mama has asked him not to, and he watches orcas chasing the silly seals. Before he can leave, the ice shelf on which he sits cracks and he ends up on a bit of ice in the ocean. He does not know where mist and darkness start and sky and water end. The story handles the topic of separation, obedience, global warming, and environment protection.

It is a good book to educate children about the hazards of global warming and how this can affect wildlife and their natural habitat. The pictures are wonderful and they convey the concept and message clearly to young readers. The information at the end of the book about polar bears is excellent and gives readers a little more knowledge about polar bears. It is a good book to have in school libraries for reference and is also good for read aloud sessions in classrooms because of its educational content. The book is short, sweet, and simple, and that makes it easy for children to understand the author’s message. Books like this make learning easy and fun and children get to know more about the hazards of global warming and how it can be detrimental to the planet.
