Greg Rode revisits the zombie apocalypse with Gathering, the third book in The Sanctuary Chronicles series. On one hand, we have Morgan, the main character's sister. She is strong-willed and resourceful, a lone wolf perfectly capable of surviving on her own. Good at reading people, this professional athlete has no problems either with zombies or with humans. On the other hand, we have Eve, who stayed behind to care for her dying father. Winter is coming, and she has no heat or company to keep her warm. Will they make it?
Greg Rode adds another book to the zombie apocalypse series. In Gathering, you get to read two fast-paced stories that merge into one. In a dynamic rhythm, Rode gives the background to two characters, explaining how they wound up together. The narrative is light and easy to read. Truly hilarious, but that does not destroy the mild terror expected from a zombie novel. As a result, the book is fast-paced and enjoyable, plus thrilling enough to maintain readers' attention. It has been a long time since I read a book so terrifying yet funny. The book incorporates beautifully described characters. The two main female characters are strong, with strengths that are different, but equally admirable. These are good role models for anyone to follow. Aside from the expected paranormal characteristics, Rode doesn't miss the opportunity to tackle important issues needing exposure, such as harassment. It is an outstanding book that I would strongly recommend.
